Periodontal Disease in New York

Periodontal Disease in New York Periodontal disease in New York is more common than you might think, and can be cured with varying degrees of treatment depending on the severity.

What is periodontal disease? According to this article on Wikipedia, periodontal disease is ‘the name of a collection of inflammatory diseases affecting the tissues that surround and support the teeth.’

Periodontal disease, more commonly called ‘gum disease‘, is an inflammation or infection of the gums. Periodontal disease can be very painful in some extreme conditions, and can limit your ability to eat normally. In some cases, periodontal disease can affect your smile, and can create cosmetic concerns.

If left untreated, periodontal disease can cause irreversible damage. When caught early and treated, periodontal disease can be little more than an inconvenience. However the best policy is to practice good dental hygiene to keep periodontal disease at bay.

One of the best ways to avoid periodontal disease is to get a regular dental check up at your local Staten Island dentist.

Give us a call at (347) 695-4370 to schedule your next dental checkup; we look forward to seeing you.

Love Your Smile in Staten Island

Love Your Smile in Staten Island There is nothing like bright white teeth that light up a person’s whole face when they smile and laugh. No one has to settle for dull, yellow teeth.

This is a great time for Staten Island men, women and teens to get a deep teeth cleaning and tooth whitening at Staten Island Dental Care.  With a deep cleaning followed by teeth bleaching, your teeth will feel as good as they look.

If you have an important upcoming event such as a Brooklyn wedding, Manhattan party or formal family portrait sitting, a smile makeover will give you extra confidence as you pose for photos (even close-ups).

Staten Island teeth bleaching can whiten teeth beyond their natural shade. At our cosmetic dentistry practice, we don’t use a conventional shade chart for our whitening clients anymore. You have probably seen the porcelain tabs in graduated shades that Staten Island tooth whitening dentists use to determine appropriate, yet natural looking, shades for tooth restorations. We now use a shade guide with levels significantly whiter than the guides we have used in the past. Tooth whitening is not a gimmick; it is safe and incredibly effective. Tooth bleaching clients can maintain a white shade that equals the brightness of the ‘tooth’ models you see in dental marketing.

Tooth whitening following twice-yearly cleanings is the most affordable cosmetic dentistry procedure. Tooth bleaching in Staten Island is comparable to the cost of a professional hair weaving and cut, but when you consider the transformation; there is no comparison! Flash your gorgeous, sparkling smile, and no one will even notice your hair.

Staten Island Whiter Smiles

Staten Island Pediatric Dentistry Wishing for a Staten Island whiter smile but not sure how to get it? New to New York smile tooth whitening lingo? At Staten Island Dental Care, we educate clients on the variety of affordable teeth whiting treatments; from whitening trays to teeth bleaching to opalescence whitening. We do smile whitening every day.

Almost every toothpaste claims to whiten teeth, but as we age our teeth gradually turn yellow or gray, despite all the whitening toothpastes we use regularly. Tooth enamel, while one of the hardest substances in the body, is porous. Over time, the food and drinks that comes in contact with our teeth cause staining and discoloration. You probably have already discovered that a toothbrush cannot clean these microscopic pores.

Carbamide peroxide and hydrogen peroxide are the two main smile whitening ingredients. They can penetrate the outer layer of your teeth to remove the build-up, and help restore whitening to teeth. Call Staten Island Dental Care at (718) 761-5757 to schedule an appointment and we will explain the difference between these tooth bleaching ingredients and how they may affect your Staten Island smile whitening results.

Staten Island at-home teeth whitening products are probably not a good choice if you have crowns or veneers. You could end up with extremely uneven results or possible damage to your existing New York cosmetic dentistry.

We know the best Staten Island teeth bleaching options and can recommend the perfect white smile solution for you.

At Staten Island Dental Care, we hope to see you soon. Give us a call at (718) 761-5757.

Staten Island Tooth Restoration: Dental Implants and Dental Bridges

When my Staten Island clients ask me about tooth restoration, I usually tellFremont Dental Implants and Dental Bridges

them about fixed (or ‘traditional’) dental bridges or tooth implants. A dental bridge is an artificial tooth which replaces a missing tooth. The false tooth (called a ‘pontic’) is fused to porcelain crowns on either side of the missing tooth.

Tooth replacement has been a highly requested procedure at my Staten Island dental practice. Patients have expressed concern about tooth replacement for many years. Most of my questions have to do with the strength of the tooth replacement, and durability.

Dental implants are also popular concern for my tooth replacement patients. A dental implant consists of a titanium post surgically inserted into the jaw bone to replace the root of the missing tooth. The post integrates with the bone to provide a stable foundation for the replacement tooth.

After it has bonded with the bone (it usually takes three to six months), a smaller post is attached. This post extends above the gum line. The artificial tooth (crown) is then attached. The entire process takes several months, but consistently yields terrific results for tooth restoration patients. My New York cosmetic dentistry patients appreciate the fact that I stay up to date on the latest advancements in tooth replacement procedures.

Both smile restoration options preserve or restore facial contour and allow you to talk and eat normally. Tooth replacements prevent adjoining teeth from gradually shifting and can help correct bite problems, too. Tooth implants and dental bridges can replace one or more missing teeth. Many dental patients have been treated successfully with these tooth restoration alternatives.

Call Staten Island Dental Care and ask for Dr. Fred Hecht, DMD to schedule an evaluation for New York tooth restoration. You can schedule your tooth restoration by calling us at (718) 761-5757.

Tooth Whitening Dentistry In Staten Island

Tooth whitening has really taken off in Staten Island. It has become a popular dentalTooth Whitening Dentistry In Fremont

procedure and can provide excellent results if done properly.

There are a lot of options when it comes to tooth whitening. You can choose from a selection of over-the-counter options that you can get at your local pharmacy, or can go to a professional to get a complete tooth whitening solution.

It is a good idea to consult with your dentist before a tooth whitening, regardless of whether you choose to use an over-the-counter product. Your dentist will be able to help you understand the results you can expect, and can help recommend a product that will work for you.

There are many variables when it comes to tooth whitening. The color of your teeth at the beginning of your treatment will make a difference for your ending result. Different tooth whitening treatments will each produce a different result. Your Staten Island dentist has experience with tooth coloration and the types of treatments available.

In many cases, your dentist will be able to provide you with a tooth whitening solution that you can take home with you. In some cases, your dentist may recommend a professional treatment that is done at the dentist’s office.

Professional tooth whitening can produce dramatic results in a single treatment, and is often done over a few treatments.

Tooth whitening is less expensive than it was in the earlier days of tooth whitening technology. Today, tooth whitening treatments are very affordable, and don’t take the time they used to.

If you are interested in a tooth whitening consultation in the Staten Island area, please call Fred Hecht DMD and make an appointment to see me. I will be happy to give you a check up, assess your tooth color, and recommend teeth whitening treatments that may be right for you.

Common Myths about Staten Island Family Cosmetic Dentistry

Myth #1: Cosmetic Dentistry is Never Necessary for a Healthy Smile

Many so-called Staten Island cosmetic dental procedures are not solely cosmetic.  Dental procedures such as tooth replacement are smile-enhancing and, more importantly, prevent many potential problems such as tooth movement, bone loss and difficulty chewing and speaking.

Myth #2: A Staten Island Dental Bridge is the Only Way to Replace a Missing Tooth

Dental bridges are an Staten Island dental cosmetic procedure that have been used for many years with success. However, dental implants are often a better choice for replacing one or more missing teeth. Dental implants have many advantages for  dental patients. They feel like natural teeth, they are stronger, and they are easier to clean than dental bridges. New York tooth implants can also be used to anchor dentures or partial dentures.

Myth #3: At-Home Kits are as Effective for Staten Island Tooth Whitening Than a Professional Dental Solution

At Fred Hecht DDS, we offer our dental patients teeth whitening treatments that provide a much greater level of whiteness than at-home kits. At-home kits may remove surface stains, but they do not provide optimum results and can often lead to uneven coloring.

Myth #4: Dental Bonding is the Best Way to Fix a Chipped Tooth.

Dental bonding can restore the shape of a tooth, but may not be the best long-term solution. If you have a damaged tooth, you may be a good candidate for porcelain veneers. Call us at (718) 761-5757 to set up an appointment so we can determine the best solution for you.

Myth #5: Staten Island Braces are the Only Way to Straighten Teeth

Braces are often part of a transforming dental makeover for our teens and adults alike. However, if your teeth are only slightly crooked, porcelain veneers can reshape your teeth and dramatically improve your smile. And the best thing about veneers? They offer instant results!
